A Breast Cancer Story

I was 35 years old when I found a lump on my right breast. I have a wonderful husband and 3 beautiful daughters. I have had cysts on my breast before but this was different so I went to my doctor and he ordered an ultrasound. After waiting 2 months to get into the ultrasound I got the results. It was nothing, just a fibroid adenoma.

I had been raised by my grandparents and knew very little on my family medical history. But there was something that still concerned me. It was growing rapidly and I wanted it removed and biopsied. So on September 15, 2009, my surgeon removed the lump. I got a call the next day and was told, "You have breast cancer.”

Turns out they removed 4cm of cancer from my right breast. So I had a partial mastectomy and lymph node dissection on October 26, 2009, and then started my first of six rounds of chemotherapy on December 23, 2009. I have 2 rounds of chemotherapy to go then 5 weeks of radiation and Tamoxifen.

I have all the love and support from my family and friends and I will be there June 2010 to do The Walk to End Women's Cancer. I will be a Breast Cancer Survivor!!
