Breast Cancer Story

Hi, my name is Nicole Hippe and I’m a breast cancer survivor.

In October of 2000 I was married to a wonderful man, Dan Hippe. We were so excited to start our life together as a couple. The first real test of our marriage came in April of 2001. Just 6 months after we were married I was diagnosed with breast cancer (ductal carcinoma in-situ), in my right breast. Being just 29 and having no history at all of this disease in my family, this completely came out of left field.

The next 3 months were a whirlwind of meeting with doctors, surgeries and finally planning of my reconstruction after a bi-lateral mastectomy. I received great care from the staff at the Foothills Hospital Breast Health Center. The team I was given was amazing. I am happy to say that this July will be 9 years in remission. Dan and I now have a 6 1/2 year old and a 2 year old. I am here today because of advancements in research and care, and the wonderful support from my husband Dan, my family and the amazing friends we have. I am also here because of people like you and your generous donations to help fight against women's cancers.

This will be my third year walking and I can definitely tell you that the support I have been given from everyone has been amazing. The walk itself is the least I can do for the cause. I like to think of myself as a poster child for early detection in breast cancer.
